Mizu Designs is the work of Australian printmaker and illustrator, Kylie Budge.
I studied woodblock printing in Kyoto, Japan, my much loved home for seven years.
Mizu, my design name, means water in Japanese. Water signifies life, and in the Japanese process of printmaking, watercolour inks are an integral part.
Using the traditional Japanese method of printmaking I make my woodblock prints with watercolour inks, beautiful Japanese paper, a bamboo leaf covered baren (no press!), and traditional carving tools.
Much of my design inspiration comes from Japan and all things wild and natural including indigenous Australian plant life.
Alongside woodblock prints, I enjoy experimenting with illustration and giclee prints. I also make a range of colourful art cards including: original woodblock print cards, giclee print cards, and vintage kimono fabric cards using fabric sourced from the old Japanese city of Kyoto.
My prints have been exhibited in galleries in Kyoto and Hokkaido, Japan.
